Meet Our Crew

The Sweitzers

Jim and Diny Sweitzer became the new owners of the West Hill Shop July 13, 2004. They have lived in Putney since 1998 and have two sons. The family all have participated in cycling and cross-country skiing throughout the years. Jim is usually out exploring the dirt roads, Class IV (i.e. Vermont Pave') roads and occasional trail on his Salsa Cutthroat rigid 29r. He also rides a Salsa Pony Rustler mountain bike, and an Independent Fabrications Ti Crown Jewel painted in custom West Hill panels. Diny is either riding her Giant Avail Advanced road bike, her Giant AnyRoad Advanced gravel bike, or her Cannondale Bad Habit Carbon mountain bike. During the winter months, they both live for the fluffy white stuff, whether for classic or skate skiing, or foraging in the woods for untracked powder.

If you wish to contact them, you can email Diny or Jim.

Pip Bannister

Born as, but not known as, Phillip. Pip is our partime master mechanic and xc ski technician. He is also our in house cross-road-mountain bike racer, architect, fiddle player, Putney Planning Commission member, Putney's Citizen of the Year for 2007, and the Shop's humble hard man. He now holds the title of the 2008, 2013 and 2014 National Cyclocross Champion for age 60+ category.

If you are ever looking for Pip, you'll find him at the shop's service counter eating his lunch.

David Townsend

David is our service manager and master mechanic. He brings to the shop many years of service expertise and has a passion for all things bike. His specialty is building wheels and tuning suspension. Outside of the shop, you will find him on the trails (dirty or snowy) riding his custom-built Transition Smuggler or skiing backcountry on a pair of Fischer S-Bound 112s. David also enjoys the finer things in life like home-roasting and craft-brewing single-origin coffee from around the world. He lives in Brattleboro with his lovely wife, Kaitlyn and daughter Juniper.

If you need service advice, just email David T.

Jordan Hughes

Jordan is a U.S. Air Force veteran with mechanical skills from ten years of aircraft hydraulic systems maintenance. He comes to Putney from Gainsville, Florida with his wife (who grew up in Putney) and child. Yes, he is adjusting to the cold with lots of layers. Jordan worked as a bike service tech in the Florida bikes shops while earning his masters degree in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbs. His hobbies are studying for his liscensing board exams, teaching Wing Chun Kung Fu, and trail riding. He currently rides a Scott Genius 940 29er full squoosh. He came on board here in October and he's been learning the ropes. We are so happy to have him as a part time member of the West Hill Crew.

Tony Iovino

Tony is a long time Putney-ite who lives and breathes trail riding. If possible, he will ride one of his many mountain bikes all year round. If that means leaving New England to do it, he will. We're always psyched to have him back in the shop helping customers. He's a great source for all things mountain bike.

Kirsten Jeppesen

Kirsten is a long time resident of Putney who's an avid cyclist and skier. She is a wellness coach and has a local massage therapy practice. For summer fun you'll find Kirsten riding her classic old Lemond Zurich on the road or shredding trails on her trusty new Liv Pique Advanced. Oh yes...and her RedLine cyclocross rig is for the dirt roads. Her wintertime ski fleet includes Nordic skating and classic, alpine telemark, and everything in between (Back-country, back hill, back yard!). Kirsten loves helping folks get into the right gear for any outdoor adventure...and no adventure is too small!
