Tuesday Night Ride

TNR RIDES Starting June 1st 2021.  Schedule is posted.  The late start is due to Vaccine Schedules and general Covid safety precautions. Lets ride!

Contact info: Putney Bicycle Club Facebook page, Joe Cook

The Tuesday Night Ride is a Putney Bicycle Club sponsored road ride series that's been running continuously for over 40 years. It begins in April and ends the last Tuesday in August. The ride leaves from a different location every week somewhere in and around Windham county. The TNR Ride Schedule is your guide. As an ambassodor for the evening, a ride planner shares their favorite ride loop and sometimes an apres ride dinner location. So, plan for some really great rides. The "B Group" has a leisurely pace of 12-14 average speed and the "A Group" averages about 18mph. Updates, cancelations, and other rides are communicated regularly through the PBC Facebook page.

Wednesday Night Women's Ride

6:00 Sharp - West Hill Shop

2021 RIDES  Beginning on May 12th through September

Contact info: Putney Women Riders Facebook Group or Kirsten

This relaxed road ride is for women riders who want to sharpen their group riding skills in a supportive group atmosphere. We welcome new riders, riders who are re-conditioning, and seasoned riders to share their skills. We ride for about 1.5 hours at a pace of 12-15 mph average speed. No one gets dropped! We will usually have two leaders so that we will have the option to split up into two groups.

Our routes are mostly on pavement with some dirt road sections. Road worthy bikes are best and mountain bikes are discouraged.

If it is raining we won't ride. Sometimes we get back after sunset, so please wear brightly colored clothing and bring lights. Occasionally, we go out afterwards or hang at the shop for "nourishment" (bring a camp chair).  Come join the fun!

Annual Rides We Sponsor

Tour of the Valleys Ride

The 2021 TOV Ride will be held on Sunday August 29th As part of our West Hill 50th Anniversary Celebration.

Contact info: Info@westhilshop.com or 802-387-5718

The historic race loop through Windham County Vermont is now a scenic, 56-mile road ride, offering 3,600 feet of climbing. Typically, there is a huge spread of paces so make sure you know where you are going or have a friend to ride with. We also have the 32 mile option of the Kurn Hattin Loop, offering 2,400 feet of climbing.  Don't be shy, there is usually plenty of interest in this ride that shares the last several miles with the longer ride. There are no ride leaders, no support, but maps and cue sheets are provided. All rides start and finish at West Hill Shop, with an apres ride Pot Luck with comrades back at The Shop. PLEASE sign in before you ride. Links to the routes: Tour of the Valleys or Kurn Hattin.

This Year (2021) we are hosting the TOV along with our 50th Anniversary Celebration. BYO Grillable and Dish to share, Grill and Beverages will be provided by West Hill - Festivities will ensue after the ride - and throughout the day for those not riding.  Let the Celebration Begin! We look forward to seeing you!

The Dirty Pizza - Gravel Ride Extraordinaire !

Sunday September 12th 2021  Register Here

The Dirty Pizza is an unforgettable mixed terrain gravel ride with sections of challenging double track, lots of elevation and miles of winding dirt roads. We start and finish at Orchard HIll Breadworks  a wood fired bakery and event space in Alstead, NH. You will ride through dense forest, climb to elevations with breathtaking views,  meander beside babbling brooks, surmount epic climbs, technical terrain and smooth packed dirt, as well as a few sections of pavement. Expect 40 - 50 miles (precise course for 2021 still under review) with no less than 4000 feet of elevation gain. (shorter options are also possible) Our legendary feed stop a bit beyond the half way point will be stocked with fresh fruit, bars, cookies from the Breadworks and plenty of water to help you make it back to the bakery for the wood fired pizza feast that awaits.

The ride is challenging enough to push very fit riders to their limit, but taken at a moderate pace, cyclists of every age and ability have conquered this course and returned year after year.

Don't let another year go by without tackling this one yourself! See you on September 12th!

Best Secret Gravel Roads in the East!!

High Meadows Farm, Putney, VT

Contact info: Info@Westhillshop.com or 802-387-5718

Join us for our 5th installment of our West Hill Grinder - a gravel road adventure exploration through Putney, Dummerston, Brookline, Athens, Westminster and Brattleboro.

The ride is a fundraiser for the Windmill Hill Pinnacle Association. We are so excited to support this organization that creates and maintains an incredible resource of trails in Putney, Westminster, Athens and Brookline, and the cabin on the Windmill Hill ridge line. Some of these trails are part of our Grinder routes.

Endurance Ride - Bratt-n-Back (Brattle Rattle-n-Roll) is a beautiful "smooth gravel" endurance loop. The entire ride is approximately 42 miles with an estimated 4,000 feet of climbing past bucolic farms and rural neighborhoods on a mix of mostly dirt and some pavement. This ride can be customized with multiple bailout options to shorten the route (as short as 15 miles). You could ride this on a road bike or touring bike, with skills, depending on the condition of the dirt at the time of the event.

Adventure Rides - For advanced technical riders there is the infamous 4-Gap Ride that's 39 miles with an estimated 4,600 feet of climbing!  For intermediate-advanced riders the 2-Gap Ride is 34 miles and an estimated 3,400 feet of climbing. Both the 4-Gap and 2-Gap are all about remote, eclectic terrain. Something different around every corner with a mix of mostly packed gravel roads, some old woods roads, single track, hiking trails (4-Gap only), and as little pavement as possible. We recommend a cyclocross bike, mountain bike, or gravel road worthy bike with at least 700x38c tires.

All rides leave from our host venue High Meadows Farm in Putney, VT. Lunch will be catered by the Putney Coop and is included in your entry fee. Build your own gourmet grinders is on the menu with vegetarian and gluten free options available. BYOB is suggested!

PLEASE NOTE: This is a self-supported ride (no leader, no sweep). Please come prepared. Cell service is not reliable.

All routes are mapped with Downloadable Maps using RideWithGPS. Printed maps and Queue sheets will be available at the start of the ride.  For a look at the routes for 2021, here are links: 4-Gap Route,  2-Gap Route, and the new Bratt-n-Back (generally accurate, will get tweaked a bit). There are feed stations for the 4-Gap and 2-Gap rides.  Stay tuned with ride updates on our Facebook page. For more specific ride details with routes or to register go to BikeReg.
