Bevan Quinn worked at West Hill Shop from 1979 to 2007, as back-office guru, mountain bike expert, road race sprinter, cyclocrosser, any-weather commuter, cross country skier, snowboarder (since 1981), trials rider from way back, time-trialer, computer-brained, humorist, newsletter editor, wrench, former (and reformed) BMX freestyler, Scoutmaster, volunteer firefighter and First Responder. Bevan is married to Tammi and they have two sons, Braeden and Caleb.
Bevan's bike stable includes a Specialized S-Works M4 road bike, a Trek 8900 mountain bike, a Specialized S-Works M4 cross bike, A Redline cyclocross/commuter bike, a 1989 Haro Master freestyle bike, a Redline RL 640 freestyle BMX bike and an old Monty trials bike.
Here is Bevan's prize-winning gorp recipe—deemed Best Twist on the Original by editors in Backpacker magazine's 2001 "The Great Gorp Contest."
Editors compared it to "cinnamon toast with chocolate."
• 1 1-pound, 14-ounce jar dry-roasted peanuts
• 1 or 2 14 1/2-ounce bags Crispy M&M's
• 1 or 2 9-ounce bags Dole CinnaRaisins
Mix ingredients in a gallon-size zipper-lock bag. Yield: 4 pounds.
